ManiYeah, you heard it right. NASA plans to hold double asteroid redaction test. Given everything that is going on these days around the world I would have said to just leave the asteroids alone. The last thing we want is Armageddon style sensation,
NASA missions are the epitome of engineering, computer science and innovation. NASA is not only the best of the United States it represents our best aspirations of human kind. This these plans are similar, it will be the best of engineering and computer science to deflect two asteroids. All of these are of course tests for a real life situation if and when needed.
NASA held a virtual media briefing on Nov. 4 and showcased the launch of the agency’s first planetary defense test mission, the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART).
Hard to believe, there are people who think that NASA is frivolous spending.
Today’s NASA’s actual $19 Billion Budget is less than half of what it was in mid 1960s at $48 Billion or $377 Billion inflation adjusted for today’s dollar.
All these discoveries that gives us purpose, direction and meaning – all of it comes from this ½ percent investment, and it is this investment that has made United States a leading nation in the field of science.
Imagine for a moment if all the nations of the world competed with each other in space exploration as we compete in military prowess where the humankind would be today.
It is interesting how this is evolving and impacting our lives.
For all of these who feel that this may not be needed, large scale asteroid collisions have happened many times in the past, destroying life as we know it. Scientists believe that the planet has seen at 6 asteroid collisions that resulted in mass or complete intinctions of complex live forms.
