Fake news has become so ubiquitous and pervasive that even routine exercises like Census is no longer safe. In this interesting news video the U.S. Census taps leading tech industry firms to combat fake news.
The U.S. Census Bureau has asked tech giants Google, Facebook and Twitter to help it fend off “fake news” campaigns it fears could disrupt the upcoming 2020 count, according to Census officials and multiple sources briefed on the matter.
AI is a growing field of science and technology that can change how we interact with machines, systems and even with each other.
While fake news has become a nuisance and damaging to the actual physical health of nations, most tech organizations are complacent. Primary reason being that it helps them generate traction, stir emotions and draw a deep emotional response from the users that otherwise would not be possible.
Based on today’s available AI and machine learning technology, most tech companies can very effectively restrict fake new to a bare minimum, but they don’t – for monetary reasons often times hiding behind the genuine cause of freedom of speech.
The big debate continues, one man’s fake news is an other’s free speech.
New technology and innovative science like this is often times perceived to be too distant from daily lives. Ironic as it may sound, especially when today almost the entire world is fully dependent on a highly sophisticated communications network, it takes a lot of effort on the part of engineers and creators to make a technology user friendly and integrated enough for a greater CX/UX experience.
Companies are now working on designs and innovation that places UX at its center, and information credibility and authenticity should be an integral part of this approach.
It is intriguing how this AI and ML is evolving and impacting our lives not with daily applications like fighting fake news.
