NASA InSight Lander 'Hears' Martian Winds

Listen to the Sounds of Martian Winds: NASA’s InSight Lander

NASA’s InSight lander has achieved a fantastic feat of human engineering by recording the sounds of Martian winds on the Red Planet. The Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport (InSight) lander arrived on Mars 10 days ago, and it has already provided us with an unprecedented glimpse into the Martian atmosphere. The new data is opening up exciting possibilities for future research, as well as giving us a unique experience of what the winds on Mars actually sound like.

The First Sounds of Martian Winds

For the first time, we can now hear the sounds of the Martian winds. The InSight lander’s seismometer and air pressure sensor picked up the vibrations caused by the wind as it passed over the lander. These vibrations were then translated into sound by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), allowing us to listen to the winds on Mars in real-time. It is an incredible achievement that offers a unique opportunity to study the Martian atmosphere, as well as to give us an extraordinary experience of what it would be like to be on the surface of another planet.

In deed amazing times, going forward 8 Billion people on Planet earth and every child born going forward will have the opportunity to hear what the wind on Mars sounds like.
