Facebook is planning on merging all three apps in to one and I can say this with considerably confidence that we are going to loose all three.
Chat and Chatbots is a new field of IT, that has great potential specially when it is combined with AI and Machine Leaning.
Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg is planning to unify the underlying messaging infrastructure of the WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger services and incorporate end-to-end encryption into these apps, the New York Times reported on Friday.
However this not the first time that the big boys known as FANG (Facebook, Apple, Netflix, and Google) have botched things up. Resulting in good apps and technologies going belly up.
Hopefully, Facebook realizes that all three apps cater to a very different market, and to merge them may give Facebook an obscene amount of visibility in users minds and hearts but it will make all three segments increasingly very unhappy.
We don’t live in a world of no choices. And Facebook plans on doing this at a time when Google is phasing out Hangouts and planning on replacing it with Google Chat and Google SMS (or something along the same lines).
In today’s world, to base all technologies on a advertising base model may not be the smartest strategy. It is now high time that tech companies start considering a subscription model for people who are willing to pay for privacy and simplicity.
