Not a week goes by where you do not find a major Hacking or Cyber Security crisis story in the media.
Now, BBC News – Technology is reporting, How one teenager is making millions by hacking legally into organizations and companies networks and applications.
While awareness is key, it seems to do little good on the frequency of data theft and cyber security incidents taking palace in any given year. It has become indeed a crisis of epic proportions that compounds on daily basis.
None the less, this 19-year-old Santiago Lopez from Argentina has carved out a niche in this sector and he is the first millionaire bug-bounty hacker, which means he gets paid to find glitches in the software of some of the world’s biggest companies.
Mr Lopez made his money on the world’s biggest ethical hacking platform: HackerOne.
In reality, I am starting to believe that more reporting is having the opposite effect. It has normalized Cyber Security incidents, and has made us unconcerned.
If large enterprises and even countries are not safe, how can individual defend against this threat. Imagine if we were this compromising towards currency or even organizational assets.
In my understanding one of the reasons why Cyber Security is facing this challenge, is primarily due to lack seriousness in organization’s day-to-day body language. We talk the talk but fail to walk it.
Due to recent events, I do think things are changing and we are heading towards a zero-tolerance and zero-comprise. It is do able, it is not costly and it should be part of the enterprise architecture and DNA from day one.
